Did you know that it typically takes ten years from the first time someone has mental health concerns until they get a correct diagnosis and proper treatment? Today is National Depression Screening Day. And with roughly 40 million adults in the U.S. struggling with depression or anxiety, it’s such an important day.
The goal of National Depression Screening Day is to increase early identification and treatment. Intervening during early stages of mental illness can save lives and change the trajectories of people living with mental illnesses.
So what should you do if you are wondering if you have depression? Our first recommendation is to complete a self-screening tool. There are many that can be found online, but we’d like to share our preferred resource with you today. Completing a self-screening for depression can help you determine what your next steps should be.
If your score is 10 or above, I strongly encourage you to seek therapy or talk to your primary care physician about your depression. Don’t wait ten years to get the help you deserve.
You can schedule a free 15-minute consultation with our intake coordinator to see if one of our therapists is a good fit for you. Or you can call the Behavioral Health Response Line 24/7 by dialing 988.
Again, please don’t wait. Your mental health is too important.
