About Jennifer Ritchie

Getting Help Shouldn’t Be This Hard

You’ve been struggling and finally decided it’s time to move forward. You start reaching out to psychologists and mental health professionals but hit a wall. Everywhere has waitlists. When you eventually get an appointment, you don’t “click” with the therapist. You feel discouraged. The idea of starting from scratch is overwhelming especially when you didn’t have a good experience getting help. It shouldn’t be this hard to get the help you need!

psychologistI’m Dr. Jennifer Ritchie, a licensed psychologist.

I started Gateway Behavioral Health Consultants three years ago to help meet the need for mental health needs in our community. I’d heard horror stories about people being unable to get in to see a therapist and/or having awful encounters with mental health treatment. This was discouraging to hear because I became a psychologist to help those who are suffering find relief! Starting my practice was my way of providing a different treatment experience for those seeking help.

Seeking treatment should leave you feeling a sense of relief and hopeful that change is possible. Providing a safe space where clients feel heard and understood is the foundation of change. I lean on my advanced training as a psychologist to help find strategies that work for you! I help people in two different but equally important ways:

  1. Individual therapy for adults suffering from anxiety and depression
  2. Psychological assessments for Autism, ADHD, and Learning Disabilities

Therapy

My therapy clients often start looking for help because they are stressed and overwhelmed. They push themselves beyond their limit to prove they are “good enough”. Holding it in isn’t working anymore. My clients find comfort in having a place to share their experiences with someone who gets it. I’m not going to tell you to just “take a break” or ask you to do something you aren’t ready to do but work with you to find new ways to approach challenging situations that are “doable”. Together we discover what isn’t working so you can make choices that get the outcomes you want! My clients have told me therapy helped them “understand the root of my problems rather than just cope with them” and described me as a “genuine human helping other genuine humans”.

Psychological Assessments

Psychological assessments are an in-depth evaluation which help people understand what they are going through and identify the best steps to improve their lives. Instead of a trial and error approach to treatment, clients leave the evaluation process with a diagnosis and a narrative to better understand themselves. They are equipped with a variety of strategies and treatment options tailored to their personal needs. My clients leave this process feeling more confident and motivated to make changes in their lives! Learn more about our evaluation process
